Around 2:31PM, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to the area of Ashmont Street and Welles Avenue for an armed robbery.

On arrival, officers spoke to the victims who reported that they were followed from Ashmont MBTA Station and robbed by three black males. The victims provided officers with descriptions of the males who had robbed them and informed officers that the suspects took a Blackberry cell phone, and a white I-Pod touch with white headphones attached. The suspects further reported to officers that they only turned over their property because one of the suspects told the victims that he had a gun and kept his hand in his pocket during the robbery.  

Officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force (Gang Unit) while responding to the incident observed an individual matching one of the suspects’ descriptions running down Norfolk Street. Upon making note of the officers, the suspect immediately ran into an auto repair shop. Officers quickly exited their cruiser and pursued the suspect who ran past the front counter, into a back room and enter a door leading to shop’s attic. The suspect was caught before he could make his way to the attic area of the shop. Officers spoke to the shop’s owner who stated that he did not know the suspect nor did he have any conversation with him before the suspect fled into the restricted areas of the shop.  

The suspect was detained and returned to the scene for possible victim identification based on the fact that he matched the suspect description from the armed robbery. At the scene, both victims positively identified the suspect as one of the three males who robbed them. The suspect was placed under arrest and search incident to arrest resulted in the recovery of the victims’ cell phone, and I-Pod touch with the white headphones.

The suspect, Patrick Medley, 20 of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery. It should be noted that although no firearm was located on the suspect, a replica firearm was recovered in the middle of the street in the vicinity of Ashmont MBTA Station.
