Last night around 6:30PM, officers from District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) arrested two suspects, the driver, Pedro O. Arroyo-Santana, 21 of Jamaica Plain and charged him with Operating Motor Vehicle without Being Licensed and Assault with Intent to Murder and his passenger, Kelvin A. Diaz-Soto, 25 of Jamaica Plain and charged with Assault with Intent to Murder.
The arrest was initiated after officers observed the suspects’ car fail to stop for a red light at the intersection of Columbus Ave. and Bray Street. Officers followed the suspect and conducted a traffic stop at 91 Bragdon Street. There, officers asked the operator for his license and he produced a license which turned out to be fake. Once it was confirmed that the suspect had provided a fake license, he was asked to exit the car. The suspect, sensing he was going to be placed under arrest, started up his car, shifted his car into drive and accelerated the car at an officer. The suspect missed the officer but other officers who were standing next to the car then engaged in a violent struggle with the suspect in an attempt to keep him from driving off and possibly hitting the officer. During this struggle, the suspect kept driving forward hitting a parked car and reversing his direction striking a parked marked cruiser that was behind his car. After a lengthy violent struggle with the suspect, the car was stopped and the suspect and his passenger were ultimately placed under arrest and charged with the above offenses.
The suspects will be araigned at Roxbury District Court today.
