STORE OWNER SHOOTS ROBBERY SUSPECT IN MATTAPAN

At about 7:05pm, on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio call for a person shot at 1282 Blue Hill Ave (Essential Body Herbs). While officers were en route to the call, officers learned that the owner of the store had discharged his firearm during the course of the robbery. On arrival, officers located the suspect, who appeared to be suffering from what looked to be multiple gunshot wounds, lying in the street in front of the store. The suspect, suffering from potentially life threatening injuries, was transported to the Boston Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.

Officers spoke to the store clerk who stated that the suspect, wearing a hooded sweatshirt that was hiding his face, entered the store, approached the counter and demanded money. When the suspect reached into his jacked in such a way as if to suggest that he was in possession of a firearm, the store clerk ran to the basement of the store to notify and alert the store owner.

Upon hearing the about the robbery, the owner of the store went upstairs to confront the suspect. When the owner confronted the suspect, several shots were fired. The suspect was hit multiple times.

Detectives are seeking warrants in the name of the suspect, Raymond Sims, 47, of Boston.

Sims will be charged with Armed Robbery (Hammer) and Armed Career Criminal.
