CAUGHT IN THE ACT: CAR OWNER CATCHES CAR THIEF RUMMAGING AROUND HIS VAN

At about 2:53pm, on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, officers from Area C-6 (South Boston) responded to a radio call for an individual holding a suspect caught breaking into his vehicle in the area of 1505 Columbia Road. On arrival, officers quickly took the suspect into custody. With the suspect in custody, officers spoke to the victim who stated that he was doing some work inside a home in the area of 1505 Columbia Road when he looked outside and saw someone rummaging around inside his van.

When the victim ran outside and confronted the suspect, who was still inside his van, the suspect stated, \”I was looking for some tape for the windows.\” When the victim questioned the suspect and the veracity of his story, the suspect stated, “I was looking for something to steal and sell.” The victim stated that his vehicle had been locked, but the suspect broke rear door panel and window in order to gain entry. 

 Officers arrested Henry Bouton, 70, of Boston and charged him with Breaking & Entering a Motor Vehicle (Daytime) and the Willful & Malicious Destruction of Property.
