Forgery Lands Suspect in Jail

Yesterday, Wednesday, February 2, 2011 around 4:46PM, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to 217 Adams St. /Citizen’s Bank for a larceny in progress.

En route, officers were given a description of the suspect and advised that she had left the bank but left her passport there. On arrival, officers were directed toward a woman standing on Adams Street and told that she was the suspect. As witnesses were pointing officers toward the suspect, she took off running on Arcadia Street. The suspect continued to run from officers ignoring orders to stop. The suspect was finally caught after she jumped over a fence and was apprehended at the front of that house.

Once stopped, the suspect identified herself and told officers that she was running because she had warrants. Check over the Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) revealed that the suspect had several outstanding warrants for Uttering a False Check, Larceny by Check, Reckless Endangerment of a Child and Criminal Possession of More than an Ounce of Marijuana.

Officers returned to the bank and there learned that the suspect had attempted to cash a check for over $900.00 at the bank but fled the bank saying that she had to go move her car when bank employees questioned her about the check. The suspect came back a short time later and inquired about her passport after running out. The suspect became angry and started yelling when she was told that she had to wait and left without her passport. The bank then checked on the check that the suspect had signed and found that three other checks from the same person had been cashed that day. The owner was contacted and he verified that he had not written a check to the suspect nor any of the other checks that been cashed.

The suspect, Shanell Brown-Britt, 28 of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Uttering a False Check, Forgery and Trespassing in addition to the above mentioned warrants.
