IF I CAN’T DRIVE – HOW ABOUT MY PASSENGER??? TWO DRIVERS – TWO WARRANTS – TWO ARRESTS

At about 6:17pm, on Sunday, January 30, 2011, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) were on patrol in the area of Columbia Road and Holden Street when officers observed a green motor vehicle fail to stop for a red light. As a result, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the motor vehicle. Upon approaching the car, officers observed a male driver and a female passenger. When asked to provide a license, the male operator was unable to. A check of the operator’s driving status via the Registry of Motor Vehicles showed that the operator had a revoked license, as well as, an outstanding warrant for Operating Under the Influence. Officers arrested the driver, Jeff Balbuena, 28, of Boston and charged him with Operating after License Revoked.

Upon learning that his license was revoked and he was going to jail, the suspect asked if his girlfriend (the passenger) could take control of the motor vehicle. When asked to provide a license, the female passenger produced a Maryland Driver’s License. A warrant check of the passenger showed that the passenger also had an outstanding warrant for Operating Under the Influence. As a result, officers arrested the passenger, Susan Kraft, 25, of Boston, by order of her outstanding warrant.

The motor vehicle was towed for safe keeping.
