BREAKING INTO A CAR LANDS ONE BEHIND BARS

At about 4:27am, on Sunday, January 23, 2011, officers from Area C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for a person breaking into a motor vehicle in the area of 69 Gibson Street. On arrival, officers spoke to the owner of the car who stated that he heard his car alarm go off. Upon hearing the alarm, the victim says he went immediately went outside to further investigate. When he got to his car, the victim says he observed a black male inside his car rummaging through the center console. When the suspect saw the owner of the car, the suspect took on foot. Upon looking inside his car, the owner says he noticed several wrapped gifts (containing children’s clothing) missing.

Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspect over the police radio. In short time, officers were able to locate an individual who looked like the suspect. When officers approached the suspect, the suspect took off on foot. After a brief foot chase, officers were able to apprehend the suspect. While the suspect was being detained, the victim was brought to the scene. Upon seeing the suspect, the victim stated, “That’s him.”

Officers arrested Dayson Alves, 21, of Boston and charged him with Breaking & Entering a Motor Vehicle (Night). 

A search of the suspect enabled officers to see and seize four GPS devices.
