Do One Thing and Get Caught for Another

Yesterday afternoon around 12:15PM, an individual walked into District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) and requested police assistance for a man who had just tried to stab him at the MBTA bus stop at 3350 Washington St. while he was waiting for the bus. It should be noted that the police station is located at 3345 Washington Street.

Officers quickly responded outside where the victim pointed put the suspect as he was boarding an MBTA bus.  Officers entered the bus in order to further investigate and as they did so, the victim stated to officers that the suspect was armed with a “…knife with a white handle.” The suspect was taken off the bus and a pat frisk conducted and a white handled knife consistent with the victim’s description taken off of him.

The victim stated to officers that the incident was initiated when the suspect started harassing two women who were standing at the bus stop. The victim intervened on their behalf and asked the suspect to leave them alone at which point the suspect pulled out the described knife and yelled out, “I’ll kill you!” then lunged at the victim with the knife. The victim reported to officers that he was able to avoid being stabbed because the suspect appeared to be drunk. Officers also recovered a vodka bottle from the suspect’s coat pocket.

The suspect, Ali Derie, 37 of Roxbury was arrested and charged with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon and an outstanding warrant for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
