At about 8:30pm, on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, an officer, performing a paid detail at the TD Garden during a game between the Boston Bruins and the Ottawa Senators, observed a group of four young adults who appeared to have had too much to drink. Officers noted that the individuals were acting in a markedly obnoxious manner, being excessively disruptive and making use of an unacceptable amount of profanity. Given the presence of several young fans (children), the decision was made to escort the fans from their seats in an effort to better understand their unruly behavior.
As such, several officers approached the group and escorted them to the hallway. When asked to produce ID, one of the four individuals refused and then attempted to flee the arena. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend the suspect. As officers attempted to handcuff the suspect, the suspect began to yell and scream.
Officers arrested Brendan Meagher, 20, of Weston and charged him with Disturbing a Public Assembly.
