THE BOSTON POLICE SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS UNIT ‘COLLAR’ A FORGERY SUSPECT IMPERSONATING A PRIEST

The Boston Police Special Investigations Unit has been conducting an investigation into a forgery suspect who has been posing as a priest and opening bank accounts at major banks across the commonwealth.

The investigation indicated that after the suspect opened a bank account, he would take the starter checks and deposit those into a new account. The checks were made out in large amounts with no money in the original accounts.

On December 20, 2010 the suspect opened three accounts at Boston Private Bank at 10 Post Office Square. The suspect deposited checks in the amount of $6,000, $2,000 and $10,000 from two other banks with fraud accounts. Neither of these banks had any funds.

On December 21, 2010, the suspect returned to Boston Private Bank to take out a loan where a detective from the Boston Police Special Investigations Unit was awaiting his arrival.

The detective arrest Koffi Gbikpi, 45, of Brookline and charged him with Uttering and Forgery.
