Happy Holidays from District A-1! Officers To Donate Funds Raised at Christmas Party to the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center

District A-1 personnel will be presenting  $2,000 donation to the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center in memory of Stephen O’Malley. Monies were raised over the past 2 years at the District A-1 Children’s Christmas Party which takes place every year in the guardroom. This tradition has been going on for many years.

Stephen O’Malley was the son of retired District A-1 Police Officer Joseph O’Malley who worked at District A-1 for over twenty years. Early on in his childhood Stephen was diagnosed with cancer and received treatment at the former NEMEC Floating Hospital which is now Tufts Medical Center.  Stephen went into remission in his late teens and overcame the disease.

In his early twenties, he returned to the Floating Hospital and put on shows for the children who were being treated for cancer. The staff of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit has always told numerous stories about Stephen’s love for the staff, the unit and the children.  They were heart-warming stories.  The cancer later returned and Stephen succumbed to the disease.

The attached pictures show District A-1 personnel with their children, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren.
