OUI Suspect Arrested after Almost Running over Detail Officer

Yesterday morning around 2:00AM and officer performing a detail at the intersection of Herald and Traveler Streets arrested suspect, Helton J. Pina, 25 of Brockton and charged him with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Property, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, and Driving to Endanger.

The officer was performing a detail when a car driven by the suspect ran into a truck that was surrounded by reflective traffic cones with hazard lights on. The officer was advised of the suspect’s actions, approached the car and observed that it severe front end damage.  The officer then observe the suspect turn off the headlights of his car and start coming down the one lane of traffic directly in front of the officer.

The officer yelled for the suspect to stop the car and put up his hand to signal for the suspect to stop. Despite the officers’ actions and presence in the only lane of traffic of traffic, the suspect drove his car directly at the officer such that the officer had to jump out of the way of the car to avoid getting hit. The detail officer followed the suspect assisted by District D-4 (South End) units with lights and sirens with the suspect failing to stop. Officers pursued, successfully located and stopped the suspect at Union Street by blocking its path. There, the suspect was removed from the car and officers subsequently recovered a 200Ml bottle of Remy martin Cognac, an empty bottle of Courvoisier Cognac and a plastic bag of marijuana. The suspect was slurring his words and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Officers had a conversation with the passenger in the car during which they were told that she and the suspect had just come from a club.

The suspect was then arrested and charged with the above offenses.
