TENNIS PROGRAM AND HALEY HOUSE TO TEACH HEALTHY HOLIDAY COOKING TO KIDS
Community cooking class promotes healthy eating and cooking with locally grown food
WHAT: As part of Mayor Thomas Menino’s ongoing dedication to the healthy and active lifestyle of Boston’s youth, Boston Police Officers and members of the National Council of Negro Women will participate in a holiday cooking demonstration at Haley House for kids ages 5 to 12. Kids, who participate in the Boston Police Tennis Program, will be taught how to prepare healthy dining options for themselves and their families, as part of the Program’s efforts to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for kids in Boston.

WHERE: Haley House, 12 Dade Street, Roxbury
WHEN: Saturday, December 11, 2010, 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
WHY: The Boston Police Tennis Program, which began in 2009, offers free tennis instruction twice a week to at-risk youth throughout Boston. The National Council of Negro Women is a national non-profit organization dedicated to advocacy for women of African descent. Members of its Boston chapter will participate as part of the Council’s community outreach to kids.
The demonstration is designed to encourage kids to develop healthy eating habits, educate them about locally raised and organically grown food, and offer ideas for easy and healthy holiday dishes.
