On December 8, 2010 around 6:35pm, officers from the District A-7 (East Boston) Drug Control Unit were conducting drug surveillance in the Orient Heights section when they observed an individual looking up and down Bennington St. as if looking for someone.

Shortly after observing this individual, officers observed a car occupied by a male and a female pull up to the initial person who got in the car. They then drove away while being followed by officers. While following the car, officers observed the initial male engage in a transaction with the male occupant of the car. Shortly after this transaction, the car pulled over and the initially observed male got out of the car and started walking away.

Officers approached the suspect and after a brief conversation recovered 14 grams of cocaine from the suspect who admitted to having purchased it from the male in the car. The suspect, Jader Gutierrez, 24, of East Boston was arrested and charged with Trafficking Class B, 14-27 Grams.

Officers following the car then stopped the car and placed the occupants of the car, Jorge Querubin, 38, of Winthrop and Maribel Gonzalez, 41, of Revere under arrest charging them with Distribution of Class B, Distribution of Class B within 1,000 of a School Zone and Trafficking Class B.

A drug canine was requested to the scene which “hit” on the dashboard area of the car for the presence of narcotics.

The Boston Police Department expert on drug hides/secret compartments responded to the district station after the car was towed, and discovered a secret compartment in the area where the drug canine had indicated. Inside that compartment, officers recovered two large plastic bags weighing a total of 70 grams.
