Training and Experience Help Officers Remove Firearm from 16-Year Old

Around 6:11PM yesterday, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force (Gang Unit) arrested suspect a 16-year old male suspect from Roxbury and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.

Officers were in the Wainwright area of Dorchester on random patrol when they first observed the suspect walking with two other young men. As officers passed the group and slowed down, the suspect immediately broke off from the group and ran onto the front porch of 80 Brent St. and frantically start ringing the doorbell while all the while turning the knob to gain access to the front hallway area. Officers became concerned with the suspect’s actions because they had previously arrested someone who exhibited the same behavior with a gun decided to further investigate the suspect.

Officers approached the suspect on the porch if he lived there and he initially said yes then later said no all the while exhibiting very nervous behavior. The suspect then told officers that he was trying to visit some acquaintances at the address.  Officers then asked the suspect if he had anything on him that he shouldn’t and he did not answer but rather just dropped his head. A pat frisk was conducted of the suspect which revealed a metal like object consistent with a gun in his waistband.  Further investigation confirmed the suspect was armed with a loaded handgun.

Conversation with the residents of 80 Brent Street confirmed that the suspect did not live there nor was he visiting someone in the house.
