At about 4:55am, on Thursday, November 24, 2010, officers from Area C-6 (South Boston) were on patrol when they observed a green motor vehicle roll through a stop sign in the area of Farragut Road and East Broadway. As a result, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) in an effort to stop the car. When officers approached the car, however, the operator, after lowering his window, drove away from the scene. Officers promptly broadcast a description of the car over the police radio. In short time, back-up officers were able to rediscover the car. Officers observed the suspect’s motor vehicle, which was travelling towards them at a high rate of speed, lose control and crash into a fence and set of stairs at M Street Park.
While approaching the car, officers observed the operator exit the car and attempt to flee the scene on foot. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend the suspect.
Officers arrested Stephen McHugh, 20, of Weymouth and charged him with Refusing to Stop for Police, Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Operating after License Revoked and Leaving the Scene after Causing Personal Injury & Property Damage.
Officers located a passenger who had been riding inside the suspect’s motor vehicle. The passenger was transported to Boston Medical Center where she was treated for cuts and bruises.
