At about 2:15am, on Sunday, October 31, 2010, officers form Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for an unconscious female who reportedly had been struck in the in the head with a baseball bat. On arrival, officers observed and located the victim who was lying on the sidewalk near the intersection of Causeway and North Washington Streets. The victim, who was unable to talk to officers at the time, was attended to by Boston EMS. Officers spoke to witnesses who stated that they observed an unknown white male, wearing a baseball uniform, strike the victim in the face with a wooden baseball bat and then flee the scene in a taxi cab. Officers were able to locate and take possession of the wooden bat, possibly, used in the assault.
Further investigation enabled detectives to learn about a costume party held the night of the incident. All guests attending the party did so wearing a costume. Detectives were able to track down several photos taken during the night of the party and, upon looking through the photos, were able to observe an individual who matched the description of the suspect. Additional investigation enabled officers to ascertain the name of the suspect from the party’s guest list.
On Friday, November 19, 2010, detectives from Area A-1, in association with officers from the Everett Police Department, were able to locate and arrest Carmen Picardi, 39, of Everett.
Mr. Picardi will be charged with Assault with Intent to Murder and Mayhem. Mr. Picardi will be arraigned at Boston Municipal Court on Monday, November 22, 2010.
