Given the fact that today is October 31, 2010, the Boston Police Department would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and safe Halloween. As most of us know, Halloween is one most exciting times of the year for our young people but there\’s also the potential for issues of concern. With that thought in mind, the Boston Police Department would like to offer the following safety tips so that everyone\’s Halloween proves to be a safe and happy occasion. IMPORTANT SAFETY TIPS:
Establish a route and a curfew for your kids.
Kids should be told to avoid homes without an outside light.
Remind kids not to enter strangers’ homes or cars.
Kids should treat-or-treat with an adult.
Be sure costumes are bright, reflective and flame retardant.
Never cross the street from between parked cars.
Watch open flames from jack-o-lanterns as they could catch costumes on fire.
Be sure fake knives or swords are made from cardboard to avoid accidental injury.
When kids come home, inspect all treats before allowing kids to eat them.
If you want to welcome Trick-or-Treaters, turn on your porch light.
Remove objects from your yard that could present a hazard.
If driving, drive slowly and be aware of kids crossing the streets.
If you see anything suspicious or criminal, call 9-1-1 right away.
