At about 11:05am, on Monday, October 18, 2010, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a larceny in progress at 44 School Street (Skylight Jewelers). On arrival, officers spoke with a store employee who stated that the front door remains locked until a customer arrives and is, consequently, buzzed in. According to the employee, a white male (in his forties, wearing a black hat, brown jacket) using a cane was buzzed into the store and, once inside, stole a pair of earrings from a display case. Witnesses say they observed the suspect enter the store slowly with the help and assistance of a cane. However, after watching the suspect limp into the store, witnesses say they observed the suspect exit the store in a hurried, hasty manner without any trace of a limp.
Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspect over the police radio. In short time, officers located an individual who looked like the suspect. When officers asked the suspect where he was coming from, the suspect stated, \”I am coming from the Jewelers Building.” At this point, officers transported the suspect back to the scene of the incident.
Upon seeing the suspect, the store employee positively identified the suspect as the person seen inside the store. When asked about the earrings, the suspect stated, “I threw them in a barrel.” Officers accompanied the suspect to the barrel where, upon looking inside, officers were able to locate and take possession of the stolen earrings. The earrings were returned to the store.
Officers arrested Robert Cipollone, 54, of Boston and charged him with Larceny (Over $250.00)
