Yesterday, Saturday, October 16, 2010, afternoon around 2:30PM, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) arrested suspect, Timmie D. Jones, 28 of Dorchester and charged him with Unarmed Robbery.

At approximately 2:21PM, officers responded to the area of 35 Mount Everett St. to investigate a report of a larceny in progress. En route, officers were informed that someone had stolen the victim’s purse and the victim was in pursuit of the suspect. On arrival, officers had difficulty communicating with the victim due to a language barrier and had to have a family member translate. Officers learned that the victim was sitting in her car when the suspect flung open her door and forcibly tried to take her wallet. The victim struggled with the suspect until the suspect dragged her from the car and was able to free the bag from her grasp. The suspect, once he freed the bag from the victim’s grasp, fled down the street and through an empty and overgrown lot.

Officers were able to get a description of the suspect and his clothing and broadcast that description to other responding units. Officers then drove to the area of 367 Columbia Road which corresponds to the overgrown lot described by the victim and there started to look around to see if the victim’s property had been discarded there. As officers were walking in the area, they observed an individual hiding underneath the front stairway of a house next to the empty lot. Officers, concerned, because the male was hiding and not fully visible due to the latticework blocking the area underneath the front stairs, asked this individual what he was doing there and asked him to come out.  As officers made their way around the stairs, they observed that the male underneath the stairs matched the clothing description of the suspect. In addition, officers noticed a wallet next to where the male had been crouched underneath the stairs.

The suspect was now directed to come out from beneath the stairs and advised of his Miranda warnings. The suspect was then questioned as to his involvement in the robbery of the victim and admitted to officers that he indeed had robbed the victim and stated that the victim’s  “…stuff was right next to me” underneath the stairs. The victim was then transported to the suspect’s location and was able to identify the suspect as the one who had robbed her among two others. Officers then subsequently found the victim’s purse secreted underneath some boards next to the house.

The suspect as a result of the above was arrested and charged accordingly.
