At about 5:42pm, Tuesday, October 12, 2010, officers from Area C-11 (Dorchester) were on patrol when they observed a group of kids hanging out in the area of Bowdoin and Quincy Street. Officers immediately recognized two of the individuals in the group. The individuals in question were known to carry dangerous weapons. As such, officers approached the individuals in an effort to initiate a conversation. As officers got close, one of the suspects, while clutching at his waist area in such a way as if to suggest possession of a weapon, took off on foot. After a lengthy foot pursuit, officers were able to catch up to and take the suspect into custody. Officers retraced the steps taken during the foot pursuit. As a result, officers were able to locate and take possession of a loaded firearm with obliterated serial numbers.

Officers arrested and charged Jamal Bannister, 17, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Numbers.

While taking the suspect into custody, the suspect’s brother began yelling and screaming profanities at the officers. At one point, the suspect’s brother physically pushed and bumped the arresting officers. As a result, officers arrested Jamel Bannister, 20, of Boston and charged him with Assault & Battery on a Police Officer.
