At about 12:03pm, on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, officers from Area C-6 (South Boston) responded to a radio call for a person breaking into a residence in the area of 317 Dorchester Street. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that he was at home when the suspect walked into his home completely unannounced and uninvited. According to the victim, the suspect walked right into his living room. Upon seeing the suspect, the victim stepped up, stopped the suspect and asked him what he was doing entering his residence. To which, the suspect replied, “I thought this was my friend’s house.” At this point, the victim says the suspect fled the scene but was seen trying to enter several additional homes in the immediate area. The victim further stated that the suspect was carrying a pocket knife.
Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspect over the police radio. In short time, an officer performing a paid detail was able to locate an individual who looked like the suspect. While approaching the suspect, officers observed the suspect drop and then pick up what looked to be a knife. Officers were able see and seize a knife from the suspect.
When officers asked the suspect why he had entered the victim’s residence, the suspect replied, “I went into the house but I didn’t break in.” Officers arrested Michael Degrandis, 31, of Quincy and charged him with Attempted Breaking & Entering a Residence (Daytime).
