POLICE ARREST TWO FOR ATTACKING STREET SWEEPER

At about 1:00am, on Friday, September 24, 2010, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to the intersection of Surface Road and Sudbury Street for the report of an altercation in progress. On arrival, officers located the victim who stated that he had just been attacked. The victim, who was operating a street sweeper, stated that he was travelling the wrong way up a one way street when the suspects pulled in front of his sweeper and stopped. Unable to move, the victim exited his vehicle. Once outside his sweeper, the victim says the suspects attacked him. According to the victim, one of the attackers hit him with a hammer while the other hit him in the face with a thrown football. Victim states, after the attack, the suspects re-entered their car and fled the scene. Officers observed and noted that the victim had cuts and swelling appearing on both his face and arms. Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspect’s motor vehicle over the police radio.

In short time, officers located the motor vehicle. Upon locating the suspect’s motor vehicle, officers approached and instructed both occupants to exit the vehicle. With the occupants outside the car, the victim was brought to the scene for identification purposes. Once on scene, the victim looked at the suspects and stated, “That’s them.”

Officers arrested Piero Procopio, 26, of Lynn and Craig Strasnick, 23, Nahant and charged both with Assault & Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon. A search of the suspect’s motor vehicle enabled officers to locate and take possession of a hammer and a football.
