Traffic Stop Leads to Gun Recovery

At approximately 2:19AM today, officers from district B-2 (Roxbury) were on patrol when they observed an occupied car parked at an angle several feet from the curb. Check of the car’s registration revealed that the plates on the car belonged to another car and that the plates had been revoked due to insurance cancellation. Officers after making note of this circled the block to further investigate and at that time saw the car being driven down Geneva Avenue.

Officers performed a traffic stop of the car and noted that it was occupied by two males, neither of who had a seat belt. Officers spoke to the driver who told him that he had “just bought the car” and that he was simply moving the car to a friend’s house. It should be noted that the [paperwork provided to officers indicated that the car had been purchased on Sept. 7, 2010. The passenger’s information was requested and he provided his name and date of birth. Check of the passenger’s information revealed that he had several outstanding warrants and he was removed from the car to be placed under arrest for the outstanding warrants. The operator was removed from the car to have the motor vehicle towed. An inventory search of the car was conducted and during that search, officers recovered a loaded semi-automatic firearm in the car.

The operator, Kensy Louis, 25 of Dorchester was arrested and cited with Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle on a Public Way, Failure to Inspect a Motor Vehicle, failure to Wear Seatbelt, Attaching Plates, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle and criminally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Unlawful Carrying a Dangerous Weapon for having an expandable baton found in the car. The passenger, Wilnor Jean-Baptiste, 20 of Dorchester was arrested and cited for a seatbelt violation and criminally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Unlawful Carrying a Dangerous Weapon for having an expandable baton found in the car.
