BARRICADED SUSPECT INCIDENT IN EAST BOSTON BROUGHT TO PEACEFUL CONCLUSION

At about 8:31am, on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, officers from Area A-7 (East Boston) observed an individual wanted for several outstanding warrants in the area of 337 E. Eagle Street in East Boston. Specifically, officers observed the suspect entering the above-mentioned location. In an effort to serve the warrants and take the suspect into custody, officers approached the location and knocked on the door. When officers asked the suspect to come out, the suspect refused. Upon looking inside the location, officers observed the suspect moving around the 1st floor. Upon entering the premises, officers were able to locate the suspect on the 3rd floor.

When officers announced their presence, the suspect, who had now barricaded himself behind a locked door, stated that he wasn’t going to be taken. Furthermore, the suspect threatened that he was going to jump off the roof. At this point, police negotiators were brought to the scene to speak to the suspect. After negotiating with the suspect, the incident was brought to a peaceful and successful conclusion at approximately 2:04pm. Said Superintendent William Evans, \”The negotiators in this case did a tremendous job of talking to and reasoning with the suspect. As a result of their actions, the incident was brought to a peaceful and successful conclusion.\”

The suspect in this case, a 45 year-old white male, was transported to the Mass General Hospital for further evaluation.
