Yesterday afternoon around 2:42PM, officers from District E-18(Hyde Park) were on directed patrol at Hyde Park High School for dismissal when they observed an individual operating a scooter at an excessive speed on the sidewalk.
Officers, due to the exiting students and other pedestrian traffic, activated their emergency lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop in front of 697 Metropolitan Avenue. Once stopped, officers noted that the operator had no helmet or eye protection. Officers requested the operator’s license and he responded that he had no license and that the scooter did not belong to him. Officers checked scooter and observed that it had no key in the ignition and a broken seat/storage lock with exposed wiring. Officers then attempted to check the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the scooter and observed that it had been partially obliterated with only a few numbers showing.
Officers then notified the Governor’s Auto task Force and they were able to determine based on the few digits showing that it was a scooter that had been reported stolen on August 17th in the South End.
The operator, Charles W. St. Louis, 17 of Mattapan was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle and Disorderly Conduct.
