OFF DUTY OFFICER APPREHENDS BREAKING & ENTERING SUSPECT IN EAST BOSTON

On September 2, 2010 at 4:22pm, officers from District A-7 (East Boston) were called to assist an officer in trouble. On arrival, officers observed a white male later identified as and off duty Boston Police Officer holding a white male on the ground. Responding officers then proceeded to handcuff suspect to help the off duty police officer.  The off duty officer informed the officers that he observed the suspect walking and looking into the yard on Ashley St. He observed the suspect attempt to push in an air conditioner unit that is in stalled on the first floor of a residence on Ashley Street.

After failing to attempt to push the AC in, the off duty police officer observed the suspect go to the entryway /front door of the Ashley Street residence and pick up a package that was left at the door and walk away.  The off duty officer stated he then approached the suspect and identified himself as a Boston Police Officer. He instructed the suspect to return the package and that he was under arrest. The officer then with the assistance of a neighbor asked them to call 911 for assistance, while awaiting the arrival of additional officers, the suspect attempted the flee the scene and had to be physically subdued. The box the suspect was stealing was address to a female resident at the Ashley Street home and had been delivered by UPS.

Danny Lee Suloff, 39, of Chelsea was arrested for Breaking and Entering and larceny.
