DAILY INCIDENTS FOR SATURDAY, AUGUST 28, 2010

DRINKING AND THEN DRIVING THE WRONG WAY DOWN A ONE WAY STREET IS A GOOD WAY TO GET ARRESTED

At about 1:09am, on Friday, August 27, 2010, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) were on patrol in the area of Washington and Avery Streets when officers observed a motor vehicle driving the wrong way down a one way street. Thinking the operator may have missed seeing the sign indicating or designating the street as a one way, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and instructed the operator to turn around. However, while attempting to turn around, the operator of the vehicle struck the curbside repeatedly. Seeing this, officers approached the car. When the operator rolled down his window, officers quickly detected an odor of alcohol emanating from within the car. Further discussions with the operator enabled officers to note that the operator had slurred speech and red, glassy eyes. When asked if he’d been drinking, the operator stated, “I stopped drinking an hour ago.” When asked to submit to a field sobriety test, the operator declined.

Officers arrested a 27 year-old male from Boston and charged him with Operating Under the Influence (alcohol).

POLICE ARREST ONE BREAKING INTO AN APARTMENT IN DORCHESTER

At about 1:15pm, on Friday, August 27, 2010, officers from Area C-11 (Dorchester) responded to 18 Alpha Road for a residential alarm. On arrival, officers observed the front door ajar. As officers started to walk up the front stairs, an individual approached the officers and stated that he was the one who accidentally set the alarm off. When asked if lived at the address, the suspect stated, “Yes.” Yet, when asked to provide identification proving or verifying his residency, the suspect was unable to.  When asked if he had a key to the apartment, the suspect stated, “No.”

At this point, officers arrested the suspect, a 26 year-old male from Plymouth, and charged him with Breaking & Entering (Daytime).

When officers were able to later locate and speak to the legal occupant of the location, the legal occupant stated that the suspect had no right or permission to be inside his home.
