At about 1:15pm, on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) were on patrol in the area of Mission Hill keeping in mind recent reports related to break-ins in both homes and motor vehicles. While patrolling the area, officers observed two suspicious looking individuals walking in the area of Tremont and Parker Streets. Officers were drawn to the individuals due to the fact that both were carrying large bags which appeared to contain electronics of some kind. Moreover, officers recognized one of individuals from previous interactions. As a result, officers approached the individuals to further investigate some of their reservations. While speaking to the individuals, officers noted and observed a television monitor sticking out of the bag being held by suspect #1. When asked to explain how he came to possess the television, suspect #1 stated, “I just bought it off a guy.” Upon looking at suspect #2, officers noted that suspect #2 was carrying a bag which appeared to possess a laptop computer and other electronic equipment. When asked to explain how he came to possess the contents of the bag, suspect #2 stated, “I just got it from a friend.”
Given the conflicting stories, officers arrested Ramon Perez, 42, of Boston and Jose Rodriguez, 34, of Boston and charged both with Buying, Receiving or Concealing Stolen Goods.
A search of the suspect’s bags enabled officers to see and seize two laptop computers, a television monitor and several pieces of jewelry. While inspecting the stolen merchandise, officers were able to locate identifying marks which enabled them to track down and locate the owners of the stolen property. When officers spoke to the owners, the owners were able to describe and identify the stolen items and confirm that their apartment had been broken into earlier that day. As a result, Perez and Rodriguez were additionally charged with Breaking and Entering a Residence (Daytime).
