Dear Montebello Road Community Group and fellow community members,
I would like to take this opportunity to update all of you on the progress made since our meeting which occurred on August 17, 2010. As part of our ongoing efforts to fulfill the promises made that evening and to keep you fully informed, below please find a list of initiatives that are ongoing:
- 2 Streetworkers, Jamaine Gaitor and Dana Burris supervised by Brie McDaniels, have been newly assigned to Egleston Square. The Streetworkers will meet regularly with the officers assigned to the area to collaborate on problem-solving initiatives. I would like to thank Mayor Thomas Menino, Chris Byner from the Boston Center for Youth and Families and the Boston Public Health Commission for making this possible.
- Community members will experience an increased uniform presence in the areas of Egleston, Boylston and Washington Streets.
- Boston Police are utilizing all resources available to us to eliminate the gang and drug element from these neighborhoods. You will continue to see updates on this effort on our public safety blog, BPDNews.com.
- Officer Carlos Martinez has been assigned to a walking beat in the Egleston area during the day shift. He will assist Officers Kato Francis and Mike Flavin who are assigned to the night shift.
- The shooting investigations regarding the incidents that occurred at 3151 Washington and 3137 Washington are extremely active and we are aggressively pursuing the individuals responsible for both incidents.
- Since August 12, 2010, officers have made a total of 28 arrests in the area for numerous charges including Affray, Possession with intent to Distribute Class D, Assault and Battery Dangerous Weapon, Operating after Revocation/Suspension, Disturbing the Peace, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Alcoholic Beverage by Persons Under 21, Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
- The 28 arrests made since August 12th are a cooperative effort among Patrol Officers from E-13, the Youth Violence Strike Force, the Drug Control Unit and officers conducting details.
- Since August 12, 2010, officers have recovered 3 firearms from District E-13.
As I mentioned at our meeting, each one of you put the ‘Community’ in Community Policing. The success of our efforts depends upon your ongoing participation and your commitment to a safe community. We are greatly appreciative of your continued dedication to ensuring a safe neighborhood. We look forward to our ongoing collaboration.
