Traffic Stop Leads to Gun Recovery

Around 10:54PM last night, August 18, 2010, officers from District D-4 (South End) arrested suspects, Tyrone Seams, 24, of Dorchester, Jonathan E. Brown, 19, of Dorchester, Ricardo D. Fields, 28, of Boston and Fred C. Palmer of Dorchester and charged them with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Number and Refusal to Submit to a Police Officer. Suspect, Tyrone Seams, was additionally charged with Possession of Body Armor during Commission of a Felony and suspect, Fred Palmer was charged with Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute Class D.

Officers responded to the Lenox Street area based on intelligence and prior incidents to patrol the area for a specific car. Officers, while on patrol in the Lenox Street area, observed the target car at the intersection of Hammond and Tremont Streets and queried the plate. Query of that plate revealed to officers that the inspection sticker on the car was not valid. Armed with this information, officers activated their lights and sirens in order to conduct traffic stop. The car failed to stop for officers but rather took off at a high rate of speed. Officers followed the car as it continued to weave in and out a number of streets refusing to stop for officers.

On Whittier Street, officers observed the right rear passenger door open as the car was still traveling and an object get thrown from the vehicle. Officers believing this to be a gun broadcast the location where they had observed this action and continued to follow the suspect motor vehicle. Near the intersection of Dewitt Drive and Shawmut Avenue, officers observed the car slow down and the driver and left rear passenger exit and take off running while the car was still moving a at slow pace. Officers secured the other occupants of the car while the two others were pursued. With the assistance of numerous units, the two fleeing suspect, Palmer and Brown were eventually caught and placed under arrest.

Officers returned to the location where the suspect had been observed throwing the object out of the car and there recovered a loaded handgun. The suspects were all arrested and transported to the district station where suspect Seams was found to be wearing a body armor.

The suspects will all be arraigned at Roxbury District Court today, August 19, 2010.
