Around 1:59AM this morning, offices from District C-6 (South Boston) responded o 374 Congress St. in South Boston for a larceny in progress. En route, officers were informed that the male suspect was wearing, a blue t-shirt, black pants and was carrying a knap sack.
On arrival, officers searched the immediate area and observed a male matching the suspect description at the intersection of Boston Wharf Road and Congress Street. Officers pulled up to the suspect as he attempted to hide behind a sign but took off running when officers exited their cruiser. Officers pursued the suspect and caught him just as he was attempting to discard the knap sack.
The suspect was returned to the location of the crime where he was positively identified by witnesses as the person that had been observed breaking into the vehicles. Officers searched the bag that the suspect had discarded and found an assortment of electronic items including cameras, cell phones, I-Pods and GPS systems.
The suspect, Tony C. Goforth, 48 of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicles, Receiving Stolen Property, and Possession of Burglarious Tools for items found on his person, and Possession of Class B for prescription medication found on his person not belonging to him.
