POLICE ARREST ONE FOR DRUG POSSESSION DOWNTOWN

On Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at about 10:37am, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) were on patrol in the area of North Margin and Stillman Street when they observed an individual sitting in a motor vehicle involved in what appeared to be drug activity. Specifically, it appeared that the individual was in the process of taking or shooting what looked to be heroin. As a result of these observations, officers approached the car. When officers asked if everything was okay, the suspect tossed the drugs to the floor of his car, rolled up his window and attempted to drive off.  When officers instructed the suspect to stop, the suspect slowed his car but then proceeded to accelerate away from the scene. As the suspect car was leaving the area, the suspect’s car brushed one of the officers. Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspect’s motor vehicle over the police radio. In short time, officers located the car stopped in traffic. With the car stuck in traffic, officers approached the suspect and instructed him to get out of the car.

Once out of the car, officers arrested Anthony Carusso, 33, of Boston and charged him with Assault & Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (Car), Refusing to Submit to a Police Officer and Possession of a Class a Drug (Heroin) and Driving to Endanger.

A search of the suspect’s car enabled officers to see and take possession of several hypodermic needles.
