Community Alert: Here’s the Latest Scoop on Operation Hoodsie Cup!

Under the leadership of Mayor Thomas Menino, the Boston Police Department recently launched its latest community policing initiative, Operation Hoodsie Cup, (www.operationhoodsiecup.org).  Operation Hoodsie Cup is a Hood Ice Cream Truck utilized by Boston Police officers to hand-deliver Hoodsie Cups to children in pre-determined areas of the city.  This one-on-one contact and trust-building approach will create new channels for communication between the youth and police in each of Boston’s neighborhoods.

BPD’s Ice Cream Truck begins its weekly routine patrols today through pre-determined locations.

The schedule for the week of July 26, 2010 is as follows:

 Today July 26, 2010

District B-3 from 4:00pm-8:00pm – the Franklin Hill Vicinity including side streets along Blue Hill Ave. such as Almont, Orlando, Savannah and Hosmer Streets.

 Thursday July 29, 2010

District B-2 from 4:00pm- 8:00pm:  Orchard Gardens Park, Warren Gardens Park, Creston St, Fayston St, Seaver St, Humbolt Ave, Dudley St Park and Ceylon Park

Each week the Boston Police Department will announce the weekly route of Operation Hoodsie Cup.  At various times during the course of the program Boston Police Officers will drive the BPD Hood Ice Cream Truck though Boston neighborhoods to hand out Hoodsie Cups and engage with the city’s youth. Hill Holiday developed the creative concept and design for Operation Hoodsie Cup and partnered with Boston Police and Hood to create the BPD-designed ice cream delivery truck. The Hood Truck stops will take place along pre-determined routes in each police district throughout the City of Boston and will be announced via BPDNews.com.
