Early yesterday morning, Tuesday, 07/06/10, officers were on directed patrol in the Mission Hill area due to some incidents of B&Es in the area and to address quality of life issues.
Officers were traveling on Parker Hill Ave. toward Huntington Ave. when they observed two individuals getting out of a car. Officers’ attentions were drawn to these individuals due to the fact that both occupants who were in the car quickly exited and closed the car and started walking away when the noticed officers. Both individuals were observed holding items in their hands.
This behavior drew the attention and suspicion of officers so they decided to further investigate these two individuals. Officers approached the two individuals and as they neared them observed the items they were holding in their hands to apparently be fireworks. Officers stopped the two individuals and asked the two what they had in their possession and they confirmed that it was fireworks. A query of the two suspects revealed one of them to have an active default warrant leading officers to place him under arrest. When asked if either party had anything on them that should concern officers, the other male who had not been placed under arrest and who had been driving the car told officers that he had a folding knife on his person and “…a little bit of weed.”
The second party was then pat frisked and a knife, a clear plastic bag of marijuana and a large sum of money was found on his person. Officers then questioned the two suspects as to where they had gotten the fireworks and suspect with the warrant told officers that he had purchased the fireworks from the other suspect who had been driving the car and from whom officers had recovered the marijuana and the large sum of money. Officers then questioned that suspect as to whether or not he had any other contraband in his car and he told officers that he “…just a little more fireworks, but that’s it, nothing else!” Officers then told the suspect that they would conduct take a look at his car to confirm what he told them. Upon hearing this, the suspect took who was seated on the curb took off running from officers.
Officers pursued the fleeing suspect and upon catching up to him, the suspect struck officers in the face with an elbow and took off running again. Officers were able to catch up to the suspect after a brief foot pursuit and he continued to violently resist being placed under arrest. Officers, after some time, were able to gain control of the suspect and placed him in handcuffs and under arrest.
Officers returned to the suspect’s car and there recovered additional fireworks, sixteen (16) individually wrapped clear plastic bags of crack and a loaded firearm. The suspect, Jean C. Aman, 24 of Somerville was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm while in the Commission of a Felony, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B within 1,000’ of a School Zone, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Numbers, Sale of Fireworks and with Being an Armed Career Criminal Level II. The first suspect, Orlando Reyes, 18, of Roxbury was arrested and charged with the outstanding default warrant for Assault.
