Last night around 6:25PM, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested suspect, Timothy Hampton, 17, of Dorchester and charged him with Trespassing, Malicious Destruction of Property, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of a Firearm, Second Subsequent Offense.
Officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force were in the area of Favre Street and Cummins Highway in Mattapan due to several incidents involving violence of late when they observed a group of individuals known to them gathered around near a van parked at 16 Favre Street. As officers got closer to the group, they saw the suspect crouch down and begin to walk away from the group. One of the officers at this time opened his door to approach the group and the suspect took off running all the while clutching to his side. Based on the suspect’s behavior and action as officers approached, officers formed the opinion that the suspect may be armed with a gun. Officers pursued the suspect as he ran and chased him into the yard of a house where he broke the fence as he tried to scale the fence to get away from officers despite numerous commands for him to stop.
Officers were able to catch the suspect after he broke of a piece of the fence, and place under arrest for Trespassing and Destruction of Property after they ascertained that he did not live there nor knew anyone residing at that location. Once the suspect was arrested, a search of the suspect enabled officers to recover a loaded firearm.
