Last night around 10:30PM, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force (Gang Unit) arrested suspect, Tyrone Small, 24 of Mattapan and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
Officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force were conducting surveillance in the area of Greenfield Street and Colorado Street due to an increase of violence in those areas when they observed a group of individuals known to them congregating on Linden St., a dead end street. Officers continued to monitor this group and observed them gathered around a car occupied by an individual known to them also from past interactions. As officers continued to monitor this group, they observed the suspect get in the car and the car take off at a high rate of speed and turning without using its directional signals. Officers followed the car losing sight of it momentarily and then again observed the car parked on nearby street idling on a nearby street unoccupied. Officers exited their vehicle to search for the occupants of the car at which time they observed the suspect emerge from behind a car parked in the driveway of a house. Officers questioned the suspect as to whether he lived there and he responded that he did not nor did he know anyone residing in that house. Officers then went and looked in the area where the suspect was seen and there observed a loaded handgun underneath the motor vehicle.
The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with the above offenses.
