Yesterday afternoon around 2:00PM, officers from District C-6 (South Boston) arrested a 16-year old male juvenile suspect from South Boston and 21 year old Jonathan M. Ortiz of Dorchester and charged them with Larceny Over $250.00.
Officers were on patrol in the area of William Blvd and K Street when they were flagged and told that two victims had just had their backpacks stolen by three young Hispanic males, all riding BMX bikes. While the officers were on scene getting this information, 911 Operations received a call from a witness on Marine Rd. who had just observed three young Hispanic males going through backpacks that appeared to be stolen. The witness further informed 911 Operations that the suspects had just headed down Marine Rd. toward the rotary.
Officers broadcast this information and as they did so, several officers who were performing details in the area of Andrew Square, observed the suspects, pursued them and ended up stopping them. The initial officers that had spoken to the victims responded to the location where the suspects had been stopped with the victim who immediately positively identified the suspects.
The suspects were all pat frisked and officers recovered stolen items from the person of two of the three suspects. The recovered items were positively identified by the victims and returned to them. The good Samaritan who had called 911 when she observed the suspects rummaging through the backpacks had set aside the backpacks and officers returned and recovered them for the victims.
