About 7:42PM last night, June 6, 2010, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to 34 Sargent St. in Dorchester for a crime in progress. En route, officers were advised that the victim had come home and found an unknown person sitting inside his car parked in his driveway.
Officers quickly responded and found a suspect sitting inside the reported car sweating profusely and breathing heavily. The suspect had apparently cut his finger while breaking into the car and a knife was observed on the seat next to him. The suspect was removed from the car and he exclaimed to officers that he was just trying to sleep.
Officers inspected the car and noted that the wires to the speakers inside the car had been cut and that the side view mirror had been damaged as a result of the suspect trying to remove them.
The suspect, Luis Mercado, 35, of the South End was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle in the Nighttime, Destruction of Property and Possession of Burglarious Tools.
