About 4:13AM today, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Annunciation Road. While en route, officers were advised of a 911 call for shots fired in the area of 34 Annunciation Road.
As officers drove past BPD headquarters, they observed numerous media personnel and one of them confirmed that they did hear the sound of gunshots. Officers immediately responded to the area of Ruggles St. and Annunciation Road and while driving down Albert St. observed an individual running full speed from Albert Street back towards 40 Annunciation Road. Officers immediately got out of their cruiser and began pursuing the suspect all the while announcing their office and giving commands to the fleeing suspect to stop and show his hands. The officers who originated the pursuit lost sight of the suspect but another assisting officer was able to catch the suspect shortly thereafter.
Officers then retraced the path that the suspect had taken during his attempted flight from officers and located a loaded handgun. The suspect, Todd Mercer, 44, of Boston was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Loaded Firearm and Discharging a Firearm within 500’ of a Dwelling.
