The annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 15 and 16, 2010, and a portion of the route will result in an estimated 2,000 participants marching on streets in Boston. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and be aware that streets will be closed to vehicular traffic for periods of time both days as marchers proceed along the designated route. In addition, temporary No Stopping regulations will be in place at locations throughout the city so drivers should pay close attention to posted signs.
At 6 AM on Saturday, the group will gather at Umass-Boston and walk along the following streets.
Harborwalk to William J. Day Boulevard, left onto N Street, left onto East Broadway, right onto L Street, continue to Summer Street, right onto D Street, left onto Seaport Boulevard, to Rose Kennedy Greenway, exiting the Rose Kennedy Greenway at Salem Street, left onto Cross Street, right onto North Washington Street, left onto Causeway Street, right onto Lomasney Way, right onto Nashua Street, to DCR Property, to Blossom Street, left onto Cambridge Street, right onto South Russell Road, right onto Joy Street, right onto Beacon Street, to the Boston Common, to the Public Garden, exiting at Arlington Street, to Commonwealth Avenue, left onto Hereford Street, right onto Boylston Street, left at Fenway, entering park, exiting at Avenue Louis Pasteur, left onto Longwood Avenue, left onto Binney Street, right onto Deaconess Road, left onto Brookline Avenue, left onto Washington Street, right onto Pond Avenue, to Town of Brookline, entering the City of Boston at VFW Parkway near Hynes Playground, left onto VFW Parkway, left onto Baker Street, crossing over Spring Street, right onto Joyce Kilmer Road, left onto Northdale Road, right onto Centre Street, left onto Stimson Street, right onto Washington Street, left onto Rockland Street, to the Town of Dedham, entering the City of Boston at Sprague Street, right onto Milton Street, right onto Hyde Park Avenue, to the Town of Milton.
At 6 AM on Sunday, the group will enter Boston from the Town of Milton and continue along the following streets.
Neponset Trail, crossing Granite Avenue, right onto Hallet Street, to Pope John Paul Park, to Neponset Trail, exiting at Taylor Street, left onto Water Street, right onto Tenean Street, continuing onto Morrissey Boulevard, right onto Freeport Street, right onto Morrissey Boulevard, right onto University Drive.
Event participants are strongly encouraged to leave their cars at home and take advantage of public transportation.
