PUNCHING POLICE OFFICERS NEVER A GOOD IDEA

At about 9:54pm, on Monday, May 3, 2010, an officer, performing a paid detail in the area of 15 Lansdowne Street, observed a white male walking down the street yelling and screaming obscenities. Given the individual’s irregular behavior, the detail officer approached the individual to further investigate the situation. However, when the officer approached and asked if everything was okay, the individual punched the officer in the chest. After a brief struggle, officers were able to subdue and take the suspect into custody.

Officers arrested Chris Paul, 18, of Quincy and charged him with Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest.

SHOTS FIRED LEADS TO GUN ARREST

At about 12:28am, on Monday, May 3, 2010, officers from Area C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for shots fired in the area of Hancock & Trull Streets. On arrival, officers began looking for ballistic evidence. While searching the area for ballistics, officers observed an individual walking away from the scene. When officers attempted to stop the individual, the individual took off running. After a foot pursuit, officers were able to catch up to and subdue the suspect. Upon stopping the individual, officers noted that the suspect appeared to extremely nervous. When asked why he took off upon seeing the police, the suspect stated, “I aint got no firearm.” A search of the area, retracing the steps taken during the foot pursuit, enabled officers to locate and take possession of a firearm found inside a trash barrel. Officers noted that the firearm had recently been discharged.

Officers arrested Brian Stokes, 22, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way.

EMERGENCY ROOM ALTERCATION LANDS ONE BEHIND BARS 

At about 12:30pm, on Monday, May 3, 2010, an off-duty police officer was visiting a patient at the Brigham and Women\’s Hospital at 45 Francis Street. While at the hospital, the off-duty officer took notice of several people yelling and screaming in the area in and around the emergency room. As a result, the off-duty officer proceeded to investigate the situation. The off-duty officer soon observed an out-of-control individual who was attempting to punch several people. When the suspect approached the off-duty officer, the officer promptly identified himself as a police officer. Undeterred, the suspect attempted to punch the officer. After a brief physical altercation, the off-duty officer was able to subdue the suspect. With the suspect in custody, the off-duty officer later learned that the suspect had entered the hospital and, upon doing so, began fighting with hospital personnel. According to witnesses, the suspect punched several individuals.  

Officers arrested Oscar Torres, 31, of Boston and charged him with Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Assault & Battery on an EMT and Disorderly Conduct.
