Suspect Arrested and Uzi Recovered at Shots Fired Scene

Yesterday evening around 6:16PM, officers from District B-2 (Dorchester and Roxbury) responded 13 Centre St. in Roxbury for a call for shots fired.

While responding to the scene, officers were provided with a description of two suspects who were involved in the shooting incident and that told the firearm used was an automatic Uzi firearm. Numerous officers responded to the scene and while en route one unit observed two individuals matching the suspect description near the intersection Roxbury and Centre Street. Officers stopped the two individuals based on their identical match to the described suspects and detained them pending further investigation. Other officers at the scene of the shots fired found several witnesses who had observed the incident and these witnesses were brought to the location of the suspects. One of the two stopped suspects was positively identified as having possessed the gun and fired the shots.

Based on information obtained at the scene, officers recovered the Uzi firearm hidden away in a field. The suspect, Andre Tripp, 21, of Lynn was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Discharging a Firearm within 500’ of a Dwelling, and Possession of a Machine Gun. During subsequent investigation, officers discovered that the recovered firearm had been reported stolen on April 23 of this year. The suspect was then additionally charged with Receiving Stolen Property.

The suspect was transported to District B-2 for booking, and on arrival and during the booking process made numerous offers of cash to officers if they would let him go. The suspect will be arraigned at Roxbury District Court today, April 26, 2010.
