Yesterday, April 25, 2010, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan and Dorchester) were on patrol in the area of Morton and Havelock Streets when they observed an occupied car, not bearing a handicapped plate of placard, parked in a handicapped parking space.
Officers pulled over to address the driver and when the driver rolled down his window, officers immediately detected a very strong odor of unburned marijuana coming from inside the car. Officers then asked the operator if he had any drugs in the car on his person and he responded, “I only have one blunt. I’ll just hand it to you. You don’t have to search the car.” The driver and a passenger were asked to exit the car and a search was conducted on their person for drugs to no avail. Officers then conducted a search of the car, and found a blunt in the cup holder. During a further search of the car, officers found a backpack containing two large Ziploc bags containing marijuana, and a smaller sandwich bag containing four smaller bags of marijuana. Inside the backpack, officers also found a digital scale.
The suspect operator, Jonathan M. Daniels, 40 of Orange City, FL was arrested and charged with Possession of Class D, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D in a School Zone. Once arrested, a total of $481.00 in various bills was seized from the suspect as proceeds from drug sales.
