Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested in Stolen Car

On Friday, April 23, 2010 around 6:44PM, officers from District B-3 (Dorchester and Mattapan) responded to 4 Woodruff Way in Mattapan for a person stabbed.

On arrival, officers found a victim suffering from several apparent stab wounds. The victim was transported to Brigham and women’s Hospital suffering life threatening injuries. The victim has been upgraded to critical condition.

A short time after the stabbing incident, detectives gathered sufficient evidence to identify the person responsible for the stabbing. Once the identity of the suspect was ascertained, detectives sought and received an arrest warrant for the suspect.

Later on in the same day, officers from district B-2 (Roxbury) received a radio call for a Lojack “hit” on a stolen car in the vicinity of 26 Winthrop Street. Officers in an unmarked car started surveillance on the car and a short while later, a male and a female were observed walking towards the stolen car. Both individuals entered the car and as they did so, the male suspect observed officers approaching and quickly jumped out and took off running.

Officers pursued the suspect and eventually caught him in the back yard of a house on Moreland Street. There, the suspect exclaimed, “Damn! You guys are good; you must have Lojack on that car.”

The suspect, John Jones, 29, of Boston was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle. Once arrested, the suspect was subsequently found to have the active warrant for Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault with Intent to Murder.
