Anonymous Call Leads to Arrest of Two Suspects for Larceny from a Motor Vehicle

This morning around 4:38AM, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to 23 Ashmont Street in response to a 911 call reporting that two described males were removing tires from one vehicle and putting them in another car.

Officers approached the location from separate directions and were able and observed two individuals matching the suspects’ descriptions standing next to a parked car with one removing some rubber gloves from his hands. Officers detained both suspects while they further investigated the incident. Officers then determined that the Nissan car that the suspects were standing next to belonged to one of them. In that car, officers found an additional pair of gloves in the front passenger. Behind the suspects’ car, officers observed another Toyota car on a hydraulic jack with all four tires missing propped on two cinder blocks. Officers then observed one of the tires to the Toyota in the suspect’s car, another tire under the driver’s side door and two additional tires in the suspects’ car trunk.

One of the suspect’s, prior to being exclaimed that he had just simply been walking by and demanded that the other suspect confirm his story. Both suspects claimed that they did not know each other. Officers were able to find the owner of the Toyota who identified the tires in the suspects’ car as his. Officers also recovered the lug nuts and the jack that was used to remove the tires from the car.

Suspects, Andrew Malabre, 19, of Mattapn, and Damien Vernon, 31, of Dorchester were arrested and charged with Larceny from a Motor Vehicle and Possession of Burglarious Tools.
