At about 5:48pm, on Thursday, March 18, 2010, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) responded to 95 Moreland Street for the report of a group of kids causing a disturbance. On arrival, officers proceeded to the 3rd floor of the location. While climbing the stairs, officers detected a smell or odor of marijuana. A short time later, officers observed a young male walking towards them. However, when the individual observed the officers, he stopped quickly, turned and ran down the stairs and out of the building. While chasing behind the suspect, officers observed the individual clutch at his waist area in such a way as to suggest he was in possession of a weapon. After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to catch up to and apprehend the suspect as he was climbing over a fence. While the suspect was attempting to scale the fence, officers observed what appeared to be a firearm tucked into the suspect’s waist area. Seeing this, the officers quickly wrestled the suspect for possession of the firearm. With the gun in their possession, officers secured and handcuffed the suspect.

When officers asked the suspect if he was possession of a license to carry a firearm, the suspect stated, “No.”

Officers arrested Jason Vilalona, 21, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way, Resisting Arrest and Trespassing.
