Officers Prevent Man from Hurting Himself and Other Officers With Large Kitchen KnifeOn Thursday, September 24, 2009, at approximately 12:09pm, Boston Police Officers assigned out of Area B-3 (Mattapan), responded to a residence on Southern Avenue for a report of a man with a knife. Once on-scene, Officers spoke with EMT’s that reported responding to this location in order to assist with a medical call. Once inside, they were confronted by a 44 year-old black male that became agitated and aggressive towards them. They informed officers that this male picked up a large kitchen style knife and began pacing back and forth. Fearing for their safety, the EMT’s exited the building and phoned the Boston Police.
Officers then entered the residence and attempted to locate the above-mentioned individual. He was observed walking about the house with a large knife before locking himself into a room in the basement. Officers negotiated with the male for several minutes before convincing him to exit the room and drop the knife. The man was then transported to Boston Medical Center for an evaluation.
