Two Men Arrested for Attempting to Steal Tires from a Parked VehicleOn Friday, August 14, 2009, at approximately 3:18am, officers assigned to Area E-5 (West Roxbury), responded to the area of Fletcher Street for a report of two men attempting to steal tires off a parked vehicle.
The caller stated he was tending to his young baby when he heard a loud noise coming from the street. He looked out the window and observed two males attempting to remove the tires from his neighbor’s tires. While phoning the police, the suspects heard the caller and fled from the area. The suspects left a car jack behind and fled in a black Ford Expedition. The caller was able to obtain the plate number and supplied it to the officers.
Officers noted several lug-nuts removed from the victim’s tires as well as a left behind car jack. Detectives were notified and processed the car jack for fingerprints.
At approximately 5:22am, an officer assigned to Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain), observed the above-mentioned suspect Ford Expedition traveling on Centre Street. Officers conducted a stop of the vehicle. Two male occupants fitting the description from earlier in the evening were located within. Officers observed numerous tools consistent with those utilized in cars breaks within the vehicle. One of the suspects admitted to being in the area in question earlier in the evening. Based on the description of the suspects and vehicle, the type of tools readily available in the front passenger’s area, coupled with the admission of one of the suspects, it was believed the two suspects were associated with the attempted theft of the tires that took place earlier in the evening.
Officers arrested Brian Santiago, 23 of Roxbury and Jorge Nunez, 19 of Quincy on the charges of Possession of Bulgarious Tools and Larceny of M/V accessories (lug-nuts).
