WANTED SUSPECT APPREHENDED

BOSTON POLICE APPREHEND SUSPECT WANTED FOR ROBBING A BLIND VICTIM AT LOCAL ATM On Saturday June 20, 2009 at approximately 1:34pm, officers responded to a radio call for a robbery in progress at 1857 Centre St.(Sovereign Bank) in West Roxbury. On arrival the Officers spoke to the 59 year-old victim, who is blind. He stated that while at The Sovereign Bank inside withdrawing $50.00 from the ATM some person said to him “GIVE ME THE MONEY OR I WILL STICK YOU”. He then said that the person put him in a head lock and took his wallet that contained $24.00 and ran out of the bank.
The victim stated that he thought that he was alone in the bank. Due to the fact that he is blind he could not give a description of the suspect. Area detectives immediately responded to the bank and began an investigation.
Relative to the on-going investigation on July 08, 2009, detectives were able to identify the suspect in the surveillance footage. The suspect was identified as 47 year-old Jerome Tate of West Roxbury, who is known to investigators and has a history of larcenies in the area. Tate was also on surveillance video on a later date attempting to withdraw funds from the ATM using the victim\’s stolen credit card but was unsuccessful. A cooperative witness immediately identified the person in the pictures as Jerome Tate. The witness noted seeing Jerome wearing that distinctive fishing hat in the past with the word \”Massage\” embroidered on the brim. An arrest warrant was sought and secured for Tate in West Roxbury District Court for Armed Robbery (Knife) and Abuse of the Disabled. He was apprehended this afternoon by officers from District E-5.
Tate is expected to be arraigned tomorrow at West Roxbury District Court.
